What was the problem?
How to create a more racing orientated product for the cross-country market.
My contribution
Racing ski binding innovation With the success of the original switch in the casual market a more racing focus product with the ability to adjust the binding quickly on-the-go was required. I started by exploring many different linear mechanisms to adjust the binding back and forth. A rack and pinion based design was decided upon and modeled in Solidworks. Next the locking mechanism had to be intuitive and simple to use whilst skiing at high speeds. Iterating each design using additive manufacturing I was able to test each of the different locking mechanisms. A flexible plastic latching was the final solution. The project was then passed on to my colleges for further design work.
Challenges
Keeping the mechanism small and light
